追手門にある「国宝の碑」横の看板によると

昭和９年「国宝保存法」により国宝に指定されましたが、
その後昭和２５年に「文化財保護法」が制定されたことにより
天守閣を始め１５の建造物が国の重要文化財に指定され、
現在は、国の重要文化財です。

とのこと。
